Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM)
What is OMM?
Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine is performed by a trained Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) in an office setting. These physicians use a hands-on method with patients to diagnose and treat conditions of the bones, joints, tendons, ligaments, and muscles. This type of treatment is used for patients suffering from pain along with helping to increase mobility and function. OMM can be a primary treatment or in combination with other chronic pain methods and procedures. OMM is a non-invasive and conservative treatment used to reduce the need/use of medications for such conditions and to help the body recover from acute or chronic disease.
Types of Pain That Can Be Treated With OMM
There is a long list of injuries that can be treated with OMM, such as:
Back Pain
Musculoskeletal Abnormalities
Pelvic Pain/ Pregnancy
Joint Pain
Headaches
Limb Pain
Neck Pain
Fibromyalgia
Arthritis
Work Injuries
Sports Injuries
Myofascial Pain
Patients Who Benefit From OMM
OMM is a practice that helps to aid in restoring musculoskeletal function. Sometimes it is difficult for patients to feel relief from chronic pain treatment with only medications or injections. This manipulation can help to restore motion in joints and may be beneficial in and of itself, or combined with other pain treatments.
