Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT)
What is Neurokinetic Therapy?
Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT) is a corrective movement system based on the motor control theory that addresses the cause of pain and dysfunctional movement patterns from the motor control center of the brain. Neuroscience tells us that the Motor Control Center of the brain in the cerebellum stores movement patterns, and this occurs in normal development in response to our repeated habits and activities. Briefly, NKT is a technique that ultimately looks at compensation patterns from a motor control perspective. As a result from trauma, injury or surgery, the body attempts to protect itself and avoid pain. Often times these movement patterns may be faulty or dysfunctional, and result in pain.
NKT uses manual muscle testing in an innovative way to correct and stabilize the dysfunctional movement pattern. This approach can be looked at as the key to unlock the motor control center to relearning movement pattern and achieving lasting relief.
Types of pain that can be treated with NKT:
Plantar fasciitis
Sciatica
Frozen shoulder
Knee pain
Headaches/ Migraines
TMJ
Back pain
Treatment following NKT testing:
NKT is the assessment used and then treatment follows. Treatment can consist of corrective manual therapy and stabilization manual therapy modalities. Client can keep clothes on, however comfortable/ athletic clothing is best for the practitioner access area for treatment.
